A true warrior is always armed with the three things: the radiant sword of pacification; the mirror of bravery, wisdom, and friendship; and the precious jewel of enlightenment.

-- Morihei Ueshiba O'Sensei

Lenape Aikikai was founded in 1994 by the current assistant chief instructor Acxel Saravia. The first location was at the FAA Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ.

From 1995 to the present the current chief instructor, Nizam Taleb, has been with the dojo. Together Nizam and Acxel have taught students of Aikido at the Tech Center until September 2001. At that time our dojo was called the Technical Center Aikido Club. We moved in October 2001 to the Shore Fitness Center at Harding Highway in Mays Landing, NJ. We changed our name at that time from the Technical Center Aikido Club to Lenape Aikikai.

We are a traditional Aikido school where we find our inspiration in the founder's philosophy. We are aware of the different styles and are very much influenced by Kobayashi Shihan, Sugano Shihan, as well as Nishio Shihan. We accept all styles to practice with us and we continue to learn from all styles of Aikido. However, we do stress the relation with the sword and empty hand techniques. In this way we feel our knowledge and understanding of Aikido deepens as we progress.

Children Aikido started on February 2004. We are looking forward to integrating our club with the Mays Landing community in an effort to spread aikido to the young and old alike.
